Ranveer Singh’s rigorous physical weight shift from 78 to 87 kilos for Dhurandhar

Ranveer Singh is no stranger to radical physical transformations, but his latest feat for the film Dhurandhar has set a new benchmark even for him. To play the role of the formidable Hamza Ali Mazari, the actor underwent a staggering transformation, jumping from 78 kg to 87 kg in a mere six weeks.

The man behind this “beast mode” evolution is Mustafa Ahmed—a celebrity trainer who also transitioned into acting for the film, playing the character Rizwan. In recent revelations, Ahmed detailed the grueling discipline required to pack on nearly 10 kilos of lean muscle in such a short window.

According to Ahmed, director Aditya Dhar was very specific: Ranveer needed to look “brutal” and imposing, but he couldn’t afford to be “stiff.” Traditional bulking often leaves a person looking tight and slow, which would have hindered Ranveer’s high-energy performance.
To counter this, the training was split into two distinct phases:

Morning Sessions: 1.5 to 2 hours of Kalaripayattu (an Indian martial art) to ensure mobility and “flow.”
Evening Sessions: 1 to 1.5 hours of heavy weight training focusing on compound movements—squats, bench presses, and deadlifts—using mostly dumbbells and bars rather than machines.

Gaining that much weight in 42 days required a massive caloric surplus. Ranveer reportedly consumed between **4,000 and 4,500 calories per day.

The diet was far from a “cheat meal” fantasy. It was a repetitive, disciplined regimen consisting of: High Protein: Roughly 240 grams of protein daily, sourced from chicken, mutton, and rice.

Massive Smoothies: Two protein shakes a day, each packed with 750 calories. Ahmed noted that finishing a single clean meal of this size often took the actor 45 minutes of constant eating.

Despite his known love for Nutella, the actor stayed focused on the goal, with Ahmed describing him as a “machine” who does exactly what is asked of him.

The transformation didn’t stop once the cameras started rolling. On days with 12-hour shoot schedules followed by 6 hours of action rehearsals, Ranveer would still find time to pump iron during lunch breaks to maintain his “pump” for the scenes.

Mustafa Ahmed’s transition from trainer to co-star allowed him a front-row seat to this dedication. He noted that while most actors train to look good, Ranveer trains “as an artist,” using his physical state to influence his breathing and the very presence of his character. To
