Superstar Aamir Khan has always been known for his meticulous approach to cinema, but when it comes to his son Junaid Khan’s career, the actor has revealed a surprisingly hands-off approach. During a recent interaction while promoting the film Ek Din, Aamir shared that Junaid is fiercely independent and has made it clear that he wants to build his own legacy without his father’s professional intervention.
The veteran actor mentioned that Junaid’s journey into the film industry was paved with his own hard work rather than the influence of a famous surname. According to Aamir, Junaid spent years honing his craft, including studying theater in Los Angeles for two years and performing in plays for another year. Upon his return to Mumbai, Junaid continued his association with the stage and began auditioning like any other newcomer.
Aamir disclosed that Junaid did not tell casting directors about his family background during his early days of struggle. In fact, Aamir himself did not use his industry connections to secure work for his son. The superstar recalled that he first learned about Junaid’s debut film, Maharaj, from producer Aditya Chopra rather than from Junaid himself.
This self-reliant attitude extends to Junaid’s daily life as well; Aamir noted that despite his repeated offers to buy him a car, Junaid prefers to manage his own lifestyle and finances.
“Junaid doesn’t even want me to interfere in his career,” Aamir said, adding that he doesn’t even read his son’s scripts. He described Junaid as a “lambi race ka ghoda” emphasizing that his son is not easily discouraged by the ups and downs of the box office. This resilience was particularly noted following Junaid’s recent project Ek Din, where he stars alongside Sai Pallavi.
While Aamir is currently backing Ek Din under his production banner, he maintains that the creative choices remain entirely Junaid’s. The film, directed by Sunil Pandey, sees Junaid in a non-traditional, shy role—a choice that Aamir praised for its honesty and lack of typical “heroic” tropes.
Despite the professional distance, Aamir spoke warmly about their personal bond. He shared how he finds immense peace in their relationship, even as Junaid has grown into a tall, independent individual. For Aamir, watching Junaid carve out a space for himself on his own terms is a matter of great pride, reinforcing the idea that the young actor is determined to be known for his talent rather than his lineage.
