The entertainment industry is often filled with stories of “what could have been,” and recently, actress Chitrangada Singh shared a fascinating glimpse into a missed opportunity from her past. In a candid conversation, the actress revealed that she was once very close to starring in a project directed by Aditya Dhar, long before he became a household name with his blockbuster hits. Chitrangada recalled that the two were in deep discussions for a film titled Sufi around the year 2012, a time when Dhar was still carving his path in the industry. She noted that they were constantly in touch during that period, and the director had even penned an “amazing” character specifically with her in mind, making the project feel incredibly personal and promising for both of them.

The collaboration was so far along in the development stage that the actress mentioned it was “almost getting done” and was on the verge of a formal announcement. However, as is common in the unpredictable world of cinema, the project eventually hit a standstill and never made it to the production phase. Reflecting on that time, Chitrangada expressed a sense of nostalgia, noting how much hard work and passion both she and Dhar had poured into the script. She spoke highly of the filmmaker’s vision even back then, describing his approach to storytelling as brilliant and acknowledging that he has since gone on to “change the whole system” with his recent directorial ventures like the massive success Dhurandhar.

While Sufi may have remained unmade, Chitrangada’s admiration for Aditya Dhar has only grown over the years. She recently reconnected with him to offer her congratulations on his latest box office achievements, and she shared how looking back at their old chats reminded her of the intense dedication they shared for their shelved project. The actress praised his ability to rewrite and introspect, calling his passion for filmmaking truly inspiring. Although they didn’t get to work together in 2012, she remains open and eager for a future collaboration, while currently focusing on her own upcoming projects, including the high-stakes drama Maatrubhumi alongside Salman Khan.
