The massive cinematic success of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s action drama Animal completely transformed actor Bobby Deol’s professional trajectory, introducing him to a brand new generation of fans and turning him into a massive internet sensation. However, before the blockbuster movie reached global audiences and earned over nine hundred crore rupees, the actor’s veteran father and legendary star Dharmendra was initially quite taken aback and surprised by the decision. During a recent appearance on a newly launched celebrity chat show hosted by Shekhar Suman, Bobby Deol opened up about his family’s personal reaction to his dark role, revealing that his father was not completely thrilled or convinced about him playing a cold-blooded antagonist opposite Ranbir Kapoor. When the movie finally hit the theaters and became the talk of the town, Dharmendra turned to his son in surprise and openly questioned his character choice by asking if he was really playing the main villain in the story.

Bobby Deol fondly recalled reassuring his father immediately after the query, explaining to him that even though the character of Abrar Haque was deeply negative and menacing, it was an incredibly powerful and impactful role. The veteran star eventually grew immensely proud of his son’s career revival, warmly acknowledging his soaring popularity by jokingly asking if he had officially become the internet’s beloved Lord Bobby. Reflecting on how he landed the crucial part in the first place, Bobby shared that the director actually approached him based entirely on a single viral photograph from the Celebrity Cricket League where he was sitting with a grim expression. Even though he initially felt anxious about playing a mute character without any regular dialogues and spent an entire year and a half waiting for his scenes to be shot while fearing he might be replaced, the gamble paid off spectacularly. Bobby’s silent yet terrifying screen presence, along with his iconic entry dance sequence, left an indelible mark on cinema lovers, paving the way for him to secure major upcoming pan-India projects like Alpha and Bandar.
