The controversy surrounding the newly released action thriller Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, starring Kannada superstar Yash, has intensified online as social media users and film reviewers claim to be receiving legal notices from the producers. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the highly anticipated film recently hit theaters but received a mixed-to-negative response from audience members and critics alike. The ongoing drama reached a fresh peak after a Twitter user publicly shared screenshots claiming that the makers of the film sent them a formal legal notice simply for highlighting that audience ratings and reviews for the movie had suddenly disappeared from the popular ticketing platform BookMyShow.
According to posts shared on X (formerly Twitter), users expressing frustration called out the movie’s production team, KVN Productions, and lead actor Yash, questioning why pointing out public box office data and online rating metrics was being targeted. Prior to the theatrical release of the movie, the production team secured a temporary ex-parte interim injunction from a Bengaluru court prohibiting the publication or circulation of false, defamatory, or derogatory content about the film. Following this court order, an anti-piracy and digital rights management agency acting on behalf of the producers began issuing legal communications and takedown requests to various YouTubers, influencers, and social media commentators who posted critical reviews or commentary regarding the movie.
