Filmmaker Siddharth P Malhotra has officially confirmed that the casting for his highly anticipated biographical drama based on the legendary actress Meena Kumari and filmmaker Kamal Amrohi is complete.
The upcoming feature, titled Kamal Aur Meena, has been generating massive buzz across Indian cinema circles. While industry insiders and movie enthusiasts have been speculating about which top Bollywood stars will step into the shoes of the iconic tragedy queen and her director husband, Malhotra has chosen to keep the exact names hidden from the public eye for the time being. He expressed immense excitement over securing the ideal actors for these demanding roles, promising that the project will honor the true legacy of the historic figures.
The official development comes after months of intense casting rumors connecting several top-tier Bollywood actresses to the titular role. Despite persistent reports suggesting prominent contemporary stars were frontrunners for the venture, the director emphasized that an official reveal will take place through a dedicated studio announcement when the time is right.
Malhotra shared that finding performers who could authentically capture the emotional depth, poise, and timeless charm of Meena Kumari required extensive searching. He noted that the selected lead actors have already begun preparing for their roles to accurately portray the turbulent yet mesmerizing romance between the famous silver screen screen icons.
The screenplay for Kamal Aur Meena has been crafted using a vast collection of personal archive materials, including over two thousand original handwritten letters, personal diary entries, and rare poems shared between the couple.
According to the filmmaker, the narrative aims to offer an authentic, respectful, and visually stunning tribute to classic Hindi cinema rather than relying on sensationalized gossip. As pre-production work speeds ahead and final scheduling details are locked in, anticipation surrounding the big reveal continues to reach new heights among film fans worldwide.
