The official trailer for the highly anticipated web series Hunkkaar: The Roar has finally been released, creating a massive wave of excitement across the entertainment industry. Produced by global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas under her banner Purple Pebble Pictures, in association with Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, the hard-hitting crime drama is created by Nitya Mehra and Karan D Kapadia.
Set to premiere on JioHotstar on September 25, 2026, the show delivers a powerful narrative centering on justice, truth, and the courage to challenge institutional power.
The plot of Hunkkaar: The Roar revolves around Meenu Rawat, a courageous 17-year-old student played by breakout star Aneet Padda. Meenu files an official complaint against a revered and immensely powerful spiritual guru, Sunil Chakosi, widely known as Baapji, played by veteran actor Raghubir Yadav.
The story unfolds as Meenu accuses Baapji of severe assault and sexual abuse inside his fortress, triggering a high-stakes investigation that challenges societal norms. Instead of receiving immediate justice, Meenu is met with intense public skepticism, character assassination, and relentless questioning from all sides, including her own family, because she refuses to behave like a conventional, passive victim.
The series examines how truth is dissected across three distinct arenas: the police investigation, the courtroom proceedings, and the sensationalist media.
The series features a stellar ensemble cast bringing these complex dynamic characters to life. Fatima Sana Shaikh delivers a powerhouse performance as ACP Jasleen Singh Soni, the fierce and unyielding police officer leading the investigation who bravely stands up against Baapji’s influential clan.
Acclaimed actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub portrays the sole dedicated defense lawyer who believes Meenu’s account and fights for her truth in court, while Ram Kapoor plays the formidable, high-profile lawyer defending Baapji.
Arjun Mathur stars as a persistent television news journalist tracking the unfolding scandal, further amplifying the media circus around the case.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas expressed immense pride in executive producing the project, sharing that her vision with Purple Pebble Pictures has always been to back filmmakers with bold, distinct voices and stories that truly matter to society.
Lead actress Aneet Padda noted that her character Meenu is defined not by the tragic event that happened to her, but by her steadfast choice to stand up and refuse to be silenced. With its raw storytelling, intense performances, and backing from major industry names, Hunkkaar: The Roar promises to be one of the most talked-about investigative courtroom thrillers of the year.
