Nawazuddin Siddiqui Opens Up About His Journey From Chemist to Actor

Over the years Nawazuddin Siddiqui has made a clear place for himself in Indian cinema because Nawazuddin Siddiqui can become any character and bring real intensity to every role. However Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s path to becoming one of the recognised actors of his generation actually began with a sudden realisation.

Recalling the moment that made Nawazuddin Siddiqui realise acting was what Nawazuddin Siddiqui truly wanted to pursue Nawazuddin Siddiqui shared how a visit to a play at Mandi House changed the course of Nawazuddin Siddiquis life. Nawazuddin Siddiqui said “After graduating I started working as a chemist in Baroda. Within a year I realised the job was not for me and moved to Delhi. While I was looking for work there someone introduced me to theatre. Took me to watch a play at Mandi House. That experience changed everything. As I watched the performance I realised acting was what I had always wanted to do. Instead I had been pursuing everything else. It also struck me that this was something I could never get bored of. After I joined an amateur theatre group and spent over a year performing with them before eventually getting admission to the National School of Drama. Joining the group was also a decision because you needed experience in a certain number of plays to be eligible for admission to NSD.”

That first encounter with theatre became a turning point in Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s journey. What started as a visit to watch a play eventually led Nawazuddin Siddiqui to pursue theatre gain experience with an amateur group and finally secure admission to the National School of Drama. The foundation Nawazuddin Siddiqui built through theatre went on to shape Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s approach to performance allowing Nawazuddin Siddiqui to develop the craft and discipline that would later define Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s work across films, series and stage.

With a career that spans acclaimed performances, mainstream successes and some of the most challenging roles in contemporary Indian cinema Nawazuddin Siddiqui continues to explore stories that push Nawazuddin Siddiqui into new creative territory. Nawazuddin Siddiqui will next be seen in Tumbbad 2.
