The legacy of J.P. Dutta’s 1997 classic Border is being carried forward with a fresh batch of stars, and Varun Dhawan is leading the charge. Recently, the actor unveiled a new still from the Border 2 promo that showcases him in a fierce, battle-ready avatar. Dressed in the iconic Indian Army uniform, Varun’s look resonates with the grit and determination of the 1971 war heroes.
In Border 2, Varun isn’t just playing a fictional character; he is portraying Major Hoshiar Singh, a recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military decoration. This role carries immense weight, as it honors the bravery shown during the Battle of Basantar.
Interestingly, the real-life hero’s granddaughter, Anushka Dahiya, has already expressed her pride on social media, praising Varun for his sincere portrayal in the initial teaser.
Varun has openly shared that working on this film is emotional for him. He grew up watching the original Border at the Chandan cinema in Mumbai and considers it a “matter of pride” to now wear the uniform on screen.
The new promo shot also features Varun alongside Bollywood veteran Sunny Deol and newcomer Ahan Shetty. Sunny Deol reprises his legendary role, providing the foundation for the sequel.
Ahan Shetty adds a fresh energy, following in the footsteps of his father, Suniel Shetty, who played a pivotal role in the original film. Diljit Dosanjh also joins the “battalion” as a fighter pilot, ensuring the film covers the Army, Navy, and Air Force perspectives of the 1971 war.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 aims to be more than just a blockbuster; it is designed as a cinematic salute. During the recent teaser launch on Vijay Diwas, Varun was seen showing respect to Sunny Deol by touching his feet—a moment that went viral and highlighted the camaraderie on set.
Varun Dhawan at the teaser launch said, “I hope that when kids watch this film, they feel like joining the armed forces of this country.”
The film is currently under production and is slated for a massive worldwide release. Despite some online debate regarding the VFX in the teaser, the emotional connection and the “Lahore Tak” war cry have already ensured that the film is one of the most anticipated releases of 2026.
