Why Mastiii 4 is Facing Heat Just Before Its OTT Debut

The Masti franchise has always been synonymous with loud laughs, adult humor, and the iconic chemistry of Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, and Aftab Shivdasani. However, the latest installment, Mastiii 4, is making headlines for reasons that have nothing to do with its box office numbers. Just as the film prepared to transition from theaters to digital screens, it hit a major legal roadblock in the Delhi High Court.

The controversy was sparked by a popular content creator and Radio Jockey, Ashish Sharma. He has officially moved the court, alleging that the makers of Mastiii 4 shamelessly “lifted” a key comedy sequence from one of his viral Instagram skits.
According to the lawsuit.

The skit in question is titled “Shaq Karne Ka Nateeja,” which Sharma posted back in January 2024. The original reel was a massive hit, garnering over 11 million views—making it highly recognizable to the digital audience.

Sharma claims the film didn’t just take an “idea,” but actually copied the specific storyline, character dynamics, sequence of events, and even the final comic punchline without any credit or permission.

The legal drama couldn’t have come at a worse time for the producers. While Mastiii 4 hit theaters on November 21, 2025, it was scheduled for a major OTT release on January 16, 2026.

Content creators today are increasingly protective of their Intellectual Property (IP). Sharma is seeking a permanent injunction (which could stop the digital release), financial compensation, and a “rendition of accounts”—essentially a look at the film’s books to determine how much profit was made from the allegedly stolen material.

The Delhi High Court, presided over by Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, heard the plea on January 6, 2026. Recognizing the urgency—given the OTT premiere is only days away—the court issued a notice to the producers (Maruti International and Zee Studios).

The judge noted that while the creator’s rights are important, the producers also deserve a chance to present their side before any “stay order” is placed on the film. The next big hearing is set for January 13, 2026, which will likely decide whether the film premieres on schedule or gets pulled into a long legal battle.
