The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has issued a formal directive to the producers of the upcoming thriller Rahu Ketu, mandating the removal of a pivotal sequence featuring a scream that closely resembles the iconic roar from the 2022 blockbuster Kantara.
The decision came following a screening by the examining committee, which flagged the scene for its striking similarity to the “Varaha Roopam” sequence performed by Rishab Shetty. The board has requested the filmmakers to either mute the audio or replace it with an original vocalization before the film can be cleared for public exhibition.
According to sources close to the development, the CBFC’s report highlighted several points that the production team must address. The specific guttural roar used during the film’s supernatural climax must be entirely replaced.
Certain close-up shots of the protagonist that mirror the ritualistic expressions seen in Kantara are to be trimmed or modified. The board suggested a complete overhaul of the ambient sound design during that specific sequence to ensure it maintains an identity distinct from previous folk-horror films.
The production house has reportedly accepted the board’s suggestions to avoid a potential standoff that could delay the film’s release. The movie is currently back in the sound engineering suite, where Foley artists and voice actors are working to create a new, distinct soundscape for the character’s transformation.
The director of Rahu Ketu noted that while the scene was intended to capture the raw energy of traditional folklore, the team is now focused on ensuring the new version aligns with the CBFC’s requirements while maintaining the story’s emotional weight.
The film was originally slated for a month-end release. However, with the requirement for fresh sound mixing and a secondary submission to the board for a final certificate, industry insiders suggest the timeline may be tight. The producers remain optimistic that the revised cut will be approved in time to meet their scheduled premiere.
Once the changes are finalized, Rahu Ketu will be resubmitted for a final review to secure its U/A or A certification, depending on the intensity of the remaining content. To know such latest updates tuned to tellyboosters.com Thank you!
