In a casting move that has sparked significant buzz across Bollywood, veteran actor Chandrachur Singh is set to take on a dark, villainous role in the upcoming investigative drama Bayaan. Sharing the screen with Huma Qureshi, Singh will portray a powerful and corrupt cult leader, marking a sharp departure from the “gentle romantic” roles that defined his early career.

The film, directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra, follows the journey of Roohi (played by Qureshi), a rookie police officer stationed in a remote Rajasthan town. Her first major assignment involves investigating “Maharaj,” a revered spiritual figure accused of horrific crimes within his ashram. Singh’s character is described as a formidable adversary whose influence permeates the local political and legal systems, making Roohi’s quest for justice a dangerous uphill battle.

Chandrachur Singh, who enjoyed a successful career in the 90s with hits like Maachis and Tere Mere Sapne, has recently seen a career resurgence through impactful OTT performances in Aarya and Cuttputlli. Industry insiders suggest that Bayaan will see him join the ranks of actors like Bobby Deol and Jaideep Ahlawat, who have recently been lauded for their “grey” and villainous portrayals of self-styled godmen.

Bayaan has already made waves on the international festival circuit. It had its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in the Discovery section and was later showcased at the Busan International Film Festival.

The script was developed under the mentorship of Craig Mazin, the acclaimed creator of Chernobyl and The Last of Us, during a residency in Los Angeles. Producer Shiladitya Bora and Huma Qureshi, who also serves as an executive producer, have emphasized that while the story is deeply rooted in the social fabric of India, it is crafted for a global audience.

“The script was fantastic. Bikas and Shiladitya were sure of the story they wanted to tell,” Huma Qureshi stated in a recent interview. “It felt like something I wanted to bet on.”

The film promises to be a “slow-burn” procedural that explores themes of institutional corruption, the misuse of religious power, and the struggle of a woman trying to uphold her father’s legacy in a male-dominated system. To know such latest updates tuned to tellyboosters.com Thank you!
