In a move to redefine traditional storytelling for the digital age, Netflix India has officially announced its first-ever original mythological series, Kurukshetra. The project marks a significant milestone for the streaming giant as it dives into the vast world of Indian epics through a bold, animated lens.

Produced by Tipping Point, the series is a reimagining of the Mahabharata, specifically focusing on the intense 18-day war that changed the course of history. Unlike previous live-action adaptations, Kurukshetra is being branded as a “mythological anime,” blending classical Indian art motifs with modern, high-energy animation.

A New Perspective on an Ancient War
The series is conceptualized and created by Anu Sikka, with the narrative written and directed by Ujaan Ganguly. One of the most unique aspects of this retelling is its structure: it unfolds through the eyes of 18 different warriors. Each episode dives into the personal dilemmas, moral struggles, and internal battles of characters ranging from the Pandavas to the Kauravas, moving beyond a simple “good vs. evil” narrative.

“The Mahabharata is a mirror to our own choices,” said Tanya Bami, Series Head at Netflix India. “With its distinctive storytelling lens and layered characters, this series reimagines a story we’ve all grown up with in a way that speaks to today’s generation.”

Key Details of the Production
Two-part series consists of 9 episodes per part, totaling 18 episodes. The part 1 of the series is set to premiered on October 10, 2025.

The Lyrics is penned by the legendary poet Gulzar, adding a deep, soulful layer to the high-octane war sequences.

The Voice Cast features prominent voices including Sahil Vaid (as Lord Krishna) and Vinod Sharma (as Sanjay).

Bridging the Gap Between Generations
By choosing animation, Netflix aims to make the complex themes of Dharma and destiny accessible to a global audience while offering a fresh experience for those already familiar with the epic. The series explores “Dharmayudh” not just as a physical battle, but as a collision of duty and human frailty.

The animation, handled by HiTech Animation, has been noted for its “visually striking” style that captures the divinity and scale of the battlefield, from divine weapons to the emotional weight of loss.

Kurukshetra is now available to stream in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, as part of Netflix’s ongoing commitment to “Make in India, for the World.” To know such latest updates tuned tellyboosters.com Thank you!
