Akshay Kumar Reveals Family’s ‘Plan B’ Amid Growing LPG Shortage Concerns

As India grapples with a tightening supply of cooking gas cylinders, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has shared a glimpse into how his own household is preparing for the crisis. Speaking at a public event on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the actor revealed that while they haven’t run out of gas yet, his wife, author Twinkle Khanna, has already shifted to a backup plan.

The actor was attending the launch of the “Mumbai Clean League,” a city-wide cleanliness initiative organized by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). While the primary focus of the day was civic responsibility, the conversation quickly turned toward the ongoing LPG shortage that has left many Indian households and restaurants in a lurch.

“Two Induction Stoves Ordered”
When asked by reporters if he was feeling the heat of the cylinder shortage, Akshay responded with his trademark practical humor.
“So far, we haven’t faced a problem at home,” Akshay said. “But my wife, Twinkle, is very proactive. Just a couple of days ago, she ordered two of those induction stoves as a backup. I don’t even know if they have been delivered yet, but she’s already prepared.”

He didn’t stop at just sharing his personal story; he even suggested that others might want to follow suit to avoid being stuck without a way to cook. “Aap bhi khareed lijiye” (You should also buy one), he added with a smile.

A Growing Crisis
The actor’s comments come at a time when the LPG situation in India is becoming a major talking point. Global supply chain disruptions—largely fueled by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East—have made it difficult for distributors to keep up with demand.

In cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru, reports have emerged of:
Black marketing of cylinders with prices skyrocketing. Longer waiting periods between bookings. Small eateries shutting down because they cannot secure commercial gas.
While the Central Government has urged citizens not to panic-buy and has assured the public that they are working on alternative supply routes, the anxiety on the ground remains high.

Cleanliness Over Crisis
Despite the heavy topic, Akshay remained focused on the event’s goal: making Mumbai cleaner. He mentioned that he took a break from his busy shooting schedule for his upcoming film, Bhooth Bangla, specifically because he believes citizens need to stop relying solely on the BMC and start taking responsibility for their own surroundings.
“We always expect the municipal corporation to do everything,” Kumar said. “But real change only happens when every Mumbaikar treats the city like their own home.”

As the LPG crisis continues to develop, Akshay’s “induction stove” advice is likely to resonate with many middle-class families looking for a way to keep their kitchens running during these uncertain times. To
