“It’s Cinema, Not Politics”: Rakesh Bedi Defends Dhurandhar 2

As Dhurandhar 2 continues to shatter box office records, it has also found itself at the center of a heated national debate. While fans are praising the scale and performances—particularly Ranveer Singh’s lead role and Bedi’s portrayal of the complex Pakistani politician Jameel Jamali—critics on social media have labeled the Aditya Dhar directorial as “pro-establishment propaganda.”

Rejecting the Labels
Speaking to the media, Rakesh Bedi was quick to distance himself from the political discourse. “I don’t believe in politics; I believe in cinema,” Bedi stated firmly. He argued that categorizing a film as “pro-establishment” or “anti-establishment” is an unfair way to judge a piece of art.

“Everybody has the right to like or dislike a film. But I don’t think it’s right to put a film into some kind of a category. The real verdict is that people are loving it,” he added, pointing toward the packed theaters and round-the-clock screenings across the country.

A Dig at Past Political Dramas
In a move that raised eyebrows, Bedi compared the success of Dhurandhar 2 to other recent political biopics that failed to leave a mark. Without naming names directly, he referenced films based on figures like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indira Gandhi (likely a nod to Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency), noting that those films “didn’t run for even two days.”

According to Bedi, the difference lies in the craft. He credited the writing and the sheer scale of the production for its massive appeal. “People haven’t seen a film of this scale being mounted ever. The writing and screenplay are great, and that is why it’s working,” he explained.

A “Mad Frenzy” in Theaters
The veteran actor, known for his iconic roles in Chashme Buddoor and Shrimaan Shrimati, described the current atmosphere surrounding the film as “unprecedented.” He mentioned that even in his decades-long career, he has rarely seen such “euphoria and madness” for a cinematic release.

Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge serves as the final installment of Aditya Dhar’s spy duology. The film follows the journey of Jaskirat Singh Rangi (Ranveer Singh) as he navigates a web of deep-state conspiracies and retribution. Despite the controversies—ranging from its depiction of the Baloch community to its violent sequences—the film has already crossed the ₹300-crore mark, solidifying its status as a 2026 blockbuster.

Bedi concluded by urging fans to experience the film in theaters and, in a classic veteran move, requested them “not to reveal the ending” to those who haven’t seen it yet. To know such latest
