In a move that has both heartbroken and reassured millions of Bollywood fans, filmmaker Karan Johar has officially addressed the long-standing rumours regarding a sequel to his 2001 blockbuster, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G). Speaking in a recent candid interview, the Dharma Productions head made it clear that while the industry is currently obsessed with franchises and sequels, some legacies are better left untouched.
Preserving the Magic of K3G
For years, whispers of a “K3G 2” have circulated online, with recent speculation suggesting that Johar might even be reworking his shelved project, Takht, into a sequel for the iconic family drama. However, Johar was quick to dismiss these claims as pure fiction.
“I am glad to have this platform to clarify that there is no Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2, and there is no derivative of Takht being made,” Johar stated firmly.
The director explained that his decision stems from a deep respect for the emotional connection audiences have with the original film. He acknowledged that while every movie has its flaws, K3G possesses something far more valuable than technical perfection: nostalgia.
“I would never make a K3G 2… because what K3G has in abundance is nostalgia. I would never mess with that nostalgia or the love that film has received. You are setting yourself up for disaster if you try to make a sequel to a film like that.”
The Fate of ‘Takht’
While the news of no K3G sequel might be a letdown for some, Johar offered a significant silver lining regarding his ambitious period epic, Takht. Originally announced in 2020 with a massive ensemble cast—including Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, and Janhvi Kapoor—the film was famously put on hold due to the pandemic and various production hurdles.
Despite the delays, Johar revealed that Takht remains his “dream project” and a screenplay he considers the strongest of his entire career.
“There isn’t a revival of Takht as of now on the cards,” he clarified, “but that is a film I will definitely make while I can breathe and stand. I consider it the strongest screenplay developed with Sumit Roy… it is the best piece of work in my career.”
Looking Ahead to 2026
The filmmaker, who recently celebrated the success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, hinted that he is currently working on a secret project that has managed to stay under the radar. After a period of self-reflection, Johar has promised fans that 2026 will be the year he returns to the director’s chair, focusing on “good old-fashioned Hindi cinema.” To know such latest updates tuned tellyboosters.com Thank you!
