The Delhi High Court has reserved its final judgment in the long-standing cheque bounce case involving Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav. The decision came on Thursday after a final attempt at a settlement between the actor and the complainant failed to reach a resolution, despite intense judicial mediation.

High Stakes and Broken Promises
The case, which revolves around a debt that has grown to nearly ₹9 crore, saw Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma expressing visible frustration over the actor’s inconsistent legal stance. The court noted that Yadav had repeatedly failed to honor past undertakings regarding the repayment of dues to the complainant, M/s Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd.

“I am not getting my answers,” Justice Sharma remarked during the proceedings. “The undertaking said one thing, and now you are saying something else.”

An Emotional Standpoint
Appearing virtually, Rajpal Yadav delivered a poignant and emotional plea, detailing the financial ruin he has faced during this legal battle. Responding to a proposal where the complainant was willing to settle for a reduced amount of ₹6 crore, the actor claimed he was physically and financially unable to meet even that demand.

“I have already sold five of my flats to pay off what I could,” Yadav told the court. In a moment of visible distress, he added, “I am not being emotional… send me to jail five more times, but I have nothing left.”

His legal team argued that the actor has already served time in Tihar Jail and has made substantial payments totaling over ₹4 crore in an attempt to clear his name. However, the complainant’s counsel, Advocate Avneet Singh Sikka, maintained that serving a sentence does not absolve a debtor of their financial liabilities.

Timeline of the Dispute
The legal saga dates back over a decade and has seen numerous twists:
2010: Yadav borrows ₹5 crore to fund his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata.
2018: A magisterial court convicts him under the Negotiable Instruments Act after cheques bounce.

January 2026: Yadav surrenders to authorities to serve a six-month sentence following repeated breaches of payment promises.
February 2026: The actor is granted interim bail to explore a final settlement.
April 2, 2026: Settlement talks officially collapse, and the High Court reserves its order.

The Court’s Final Attempt
In a last-ditch effort to break the deadlock, the High Court proposed a structured payment plan of ₹3 crore to be paid within a specific timeframe. However, with no consensus reached between the parties, the bench decided to conclude the hearings and reserve its verdict.

The upcoming judgment will determine whether the popular comedian faces further incarceration or if a new legal framework for the repayment of the remaining debt will be established. To know such
