Renowned Bollywood actor and filmmaker Deepak Tijori has approached the authorities after allegedly being defrauded by individuals promising to secure financial backing for his latest cinematic project. The Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar star filed a formal complaint at the Bangur Nagar Police Station in Mumbai, detailing a “well-orchestrated” trap involving fake corporate ties.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by the actor, the incident stems from his efforts to raise capital for his upcoming film, titled ‘Tom, Dick and Mary’. Tijori, who was looking to secure a production budget of approximately ₹25 crore, was reportedly contacted by individuals claiming to have high-level influence within major production houses.
Tijori’s statement to the police identifies the primary accused as Kavita Shibag Kapoor and Fauzia Arshi. The actor alleges that the duo convinced him they could facilitate a “Letter of Interest” (LOI) from Zee Network. They claimed such a document would serve as a guarantee, making it easier to attract the remaining ₹25 crore from private investors.
To gain the filmmaker’s trust, the accused allegedly arranged a phone conversation with a man who introduced himself as “Mr. Joshi,” a supposed senior executive at Zee. Believing the credentials to be authentic, Tijori paid an initial “processing fee” of ₹2.5 lakh in February 2025.
The fraud came to light when the promised documents never arrived. Growing suspicious, Tijori conducted an independent verification with the legal and distribution departments of the actual Zee Network.
Following Tijori’s complaint, the Bangur Nagar Police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include Section 318(4) for cheating and Section 3(5) relating to common intention.
“We have initiated an investigation into the bank accounts where the money was transferred and are currently tracing the call records of the accused,” a police spokesperson stated.
This is not the first time the actor has had to fight for his dues. In late 2024, Tijori also filed a complaint against producer Vikram Khakhar regarding a ₹17.40 lakh dispute related to his film Tipppsy. In this latest case, however, the actor is determined to see the scammers held accountable for exploiting the creative process for financial gain.
