In a landmark moment for the Indian film industry, veteran producer Boney Kapoor has officially commenced the shooting of Mom 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 hit that served as the final on-screen performance of the late legendary actress Sridevi.
The project holds double significance as it is the very first film to go on floors at the newly inaugurated International Film City along the Yamuna Expressway. Speaking to the media at the launch, an enthusiastic Kapoor shared that the film is not just a sequel but a continuation of a creative legacy.

While the original film was a masterclass in the thriller genre, Mom 2 aims to bring a new perspective to the theme of justice. Kapoor confirmed that the film is being directed by Girish Kohli, who served as the writer for the first installment.
“The director is Girish Kohli, who wrote Mom 1. He knows this world better than anyone, and I am confident he will do justice to the sequel,” Kapoor told ANI during the inauguration press conference.

The producer revealed that the new facility will eventually house: A Theme Park: For tourists and film enthusiasts. Specialized Sets: Including dedicated areas for podcasts and OTT (Over-the-top) content. Job Creation: The project is expected to generate nearly 500,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
In a generous move to support the industry, Kapoor also announced that OTT projects would be allowed to shoot on the current sets of Mom 2 free of cost as an incentive to bring more creators to the new film city.

While the 2017 film was a raw revenge saga, Mom 2 is reported to be a spiritual successor—leveraging the “Mom” brand to tell a new story about a vigilante seeking justice.
