The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), the oldest and largest film body in the country, has officially written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressing deep concern over the escalating security threats directed at Bollywood celebrities. The letter calls for an urgent meeting and immediate government intervention to ensure the safety of the film industry.
The industry’s appeal for help comes after a string of alarming incidents that have sent shockwaves through the Mumbai film fraternity. According to the FWICE, several high-profile figures have recently become targets of extortion and intimidation:
Rohit Shetty: Earlier this month, unidentified gunmen fired rounds outside the filmmaker’s residence, leading to the invocation of MCOCA by the police.
Ranveer Singh: The actor reportedly received a threatening voice note on WhatsApp demanding a heavy ransom.
Aayush Sharma: Salman Khan’s brother-in-law received a death threat via email, allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
“An Atmosphere of Anxiety”
In the letter, FWICE highlighted that these threats do not just affect the stars, but the thousands of workers who keep the industry running. “The recurring nature of such threats, whether direct or indirect, poses a serious question on the safety framework required for this vital sector,” the letter stated.
The federation emphasized that the current “climate of fear” is beginning to disrupt production schedules and lower the morale of daily wage workers, technicians, and artists who rely on safe film sets for their livelihoods.
Key Demands to the State Government
The film body is seeking more than just increased security for A-listers. Their primary requests include:
Implementing a more robust mechanism to monitor and prevent extortion calls and threats. Enhanced Law Enforcement Coordination: Better communication between the industry and the Mumbai Police to respond swiftly to security breaches.
FWICE has requested a face-to-face meeting with CM Fadnavis to discuss a long-term safety roadmap for the entertainment hub.
Industry Impact
Mumbai is the heart of India’s digital and cinematic media. FWICE pointed out that if the creative community feels unsafe, it could lead to production delays and a potential shift of work to other states, which would hurt Maharashtra’s economy.
As of Thursday evening, the Chief Minister’s office has acknowledged receipt of the letter, and the industry is currently waiting for a scheduled date to discuss these pressing security concerns. To know such latest updates tuned tellyboosters.com Thank you
