As the countdown to one of the year’s biggest cinematic face-offs begins, actor R. Madhavan has shed light on the unprecedented craze surrounding the upcoming action thriller, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that the film’s popularity has transcended borders to such an extent that fans in the UAE—where the film faces a ban—are booking flights to India specifically to watch it on the big screen.

The sequel, directed by Aditya Dhar, is slated for a massive theatrical release on March 19, 2026. It follows the monumental success of the first installment, which dominated global streaming charts and ignited intense discussions over its gritty portrayal of espionage and geopolitics.

The “Dubai to India” Phenomenon
Speaking with journalist Sonia Shenoy, Madhavan expressed his awe at the lengths audiences are going to for “good content.” He noted that the ban in the UAE has not deterred fans; instead, it has turned the film’s release into a travel event.

“If you look at the first part, people from Dubai actually flew down for one day just to watch the film and then flew back,” Madhavan shared. “Now, for the sequel, they are planning their business meetings around March 19. They’ll come for work, watch the movie in a theater full of people, and then return.”

Madhavan emphasized that while viewers could easily watch the film via home streaming or IPTV, they are craving the community experience that only a cinema hall provides. “Watching it alone at home feels completely different. It’s like performing Dandiya in front of a TV—it just doesn’t have that energy,” he added with his signature wit.

A Turning Point for Indian Cinema
Beyond the box office numbers, Madhavan believes Dhurandhar represents a shift in storytelling. He argued that the era of traditional “India-Pakistan” war tropes is reaching its conclusion because the younger generation is demanding more evolved narratives.

“The younger audience is like, ‘I get it, how many times will you tell the same story?’ I think after Dhurandhar, that whole trope is going to reach its full stop,” he remarked.

What to Expect from the Sequel
Dhurandhar 2 picks up where the first film’s post-credit scene left off. The film features a powerhouse ensemble cast, including:
Ranveer Singh as the lead operative. R. Madhavan in an expanded role as the Director of the IB. Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal in pivotal, high-stakes roles. Akshaye Khanna reprising his intense character from the first part.

The film is set to clash at the box office with the Kannada superstar Yash’s pan-India spectacle, Toxic, creating a high-voltage “Dhuroxic” showdown that has industry experts and fans alike divided on who will take the crown.

The Road Ahead
With Ranveer Singh recently wrapping up dubbing and the production entering its final stages, the buzz is at an all-time high. Whether it’s the “asteroid strike” on traditional filmmaking that director Ram Gopal Varma predicts, or simply a testament to the power of a loyal fanbase, Dhurandhar 2 is clearly more than just a movie—it’s a destination.
