Filmmaker Karan Johar has officially cleared the air regarding the status of his highly anticipated action-comedy starring Sara Ali Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana. Amidst swirling rumors that the project had been shelved or “stuck in limbo” due to creative differences and release strategy shifts, Johar confirmed that the film is not only safe but nearing completion.
The untitled project, which marks the first-ever on-screen collaboration between Sara Ali Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana, is a joint venture between Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment.
Recent reports had suggested that the film’s production had ground to a halt after a successful first schedule in Manali back in 2024. Speculation grew that the makers were indecisive about whether to opt for a direct-to-OTT release or a traditional theatrical run, leading to a year-long hiatus.
However, speaking to the press on Wednesday, Karan Johar dismissed these claims as baseless.
“This is not true,” Johar stated firmly. “We have just 10 days of shoot left, and we are very much releasing the film theatrically this year.”
The film’s director, Aakash Kaushik, also echoed this sentiment, maintaining that the production is progressing as planned and that the team is excited to wrap up the final leg of filming.
The excitement surrounding the film stems largely from its “fresh” casting. Ayushmann Khurrana, known for his “everyman” charm and quirky scripts, is stepping into the action-comedy genre alongside Sara Ali Khan, who has been vocal about her desire to explore more diverse, high-energy roles.
The movie is described as a “quirky, fun story” that blends high-octane action with the signature humor associated with its lead stars. It also marks Ayushmann’s first major collaboration with the Dharma Productions banner.
While fans wait for the official title and trailer launch, both actors have a packed 2026 schedule. Ayushmann Khurrana is set to star in Sooraj Barjatya’s Yeh Prem Mol Liya. Sara Ali Khan is Gearing up for the much-awaited Pati Patni Aur Woh 2.
With only 10 days of filming remaining, the production is expected to move into post-production shortly. Karan Johar’s reassurance has put to rest any fears of the project being “lost in the shuffle,” ensuring that 2026 will indeed see this unique pairing hit the silver screen.
