Late-Night Operation Lands Shilpa Shetty’s Bastian in Trouble with Bengaluru Cops

The Bengaluru Police have recently initiated legal proceedings by registering a First Information Report (FIR) against Bastian Garden City, an upscale restaurant and pub co-owned by actor and entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty Kundra. The core of the complaint centers on alleged violations of local regulations, particularly concerning operational hours and the hosting of late-night activities that extend beyond the permitted time limits.

The case was filed suo motu (on the police’s own initiative) under Section 103 of the Karnataka Police Act. The action was triggered by a specific incident on December 11, where the establishment, located on St. Mark’s Road, was reportedly operating until around 1:30 am, significantly past the legally stipulated closing time for such venues.

This is the primary violation cited. Police records indicate that Bastian was functioning well into the early morning, which is a breach of licensing conditions. The police investigation was reportedly spurred by a viral CCTV video showing a heated verbal dispute among patrons inside the restaurant around the time of the alleged closure violation. The footage, while not showing physical violence, captured a tense argument and heckling between two groups.

The FIR names the restaurant’s managers and staff members, indicating that the authorities are holding the establishment’s operational personnel accountable for the alleged breach of rules.

The action against Bastian appears to be part of a broader crackdown by the Bengaluru police on nightlife establishments in the central business district, particularly in the run-up to the New Year celebrations, aimed at ensuring compliance with licensing norms and maintaining public order. A similar case was also registered against another nearby pub, Sour Berry on Residency Road, for comparable late-night violations.

It is also noteworthy that this FIR against the Bengaluru outlet occurs mere weeks after actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, were named in a separate, high-profile case by Mumbai’s Economic Offences Wing. This separate matter involves allegations of cheating a Mumbai-based businessman of over ₹60 crore through their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd.

The couple’s legal team has denied any criminal wrongdoing in the EOW case, asserting that the matter is civil in nature. However, officials have emphasized that the current FIR against the Bengaluru Bastian outlet is an isolated regulatory matter and does not directly involve the actor personally.
