Following the massive commercial success and widespread debate sparked by the original film, the creators of the sequel, officially titled The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, have announced that the upcoming movie is built on a foundation of real-life legal cases and months of intensive groundwork.

Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah recently shared that the team dedicated over half a year to researching the stories featured in the sequel. According to the makers, the film does not just focus on one region but aims to be “representative of an all-India situation.”

Research and “Real Cases”
The producers have stated that the narrative is woven from the experiences of numerous victims. Shah explained that the team didn’t just rely on paperwork; they traveled across the country to meet affected individuals and their families.

The makers claim to have spent 6 to 7 months conducting interviews and verifying details. The script is reportedly based on over a dozen actual court cases, police records, and FIRs (First Information Reports) from various Indian states.

While the movie follows three main protagonists, the producers say these characters are “composites” designed to reflect the stories of many different girls the team encountered during their research.

Expanding the Narrative
Unlike the first film, which focused primarily on the radicalization of women from Kerala for international terror groups, the sequel reportedly looks at exploitation occurring within India’s borders.

The story follows three young women—Surekha from Kerala, Neha from Madhya Pradesh, and Divya from Rajasthan—as they navigate what the filmmakers describe as “planned emotional traps.” The cast features new faces including Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia, and Aishwarya Ojha, with direction by National Award winner Kamakhya Narayan Singh.

“We wanted it to become more representative of our all-India situation. We have taken many incidents from other girls’ lives and made them part of their stories.” — Vipul Amrutlal Shah

Release and Production Details
To avoid the leaks and intense public scrutiny that surrounded the first film, the sequel was reportedly shot under a strict security blanket. Crew members were required to follow a “no-phone” policy on set to keep the plot details and production visuals confidential.

The original The Kerala Story (2023) was a “Black Swan” event at the box office, grossing over ₹300 crore despite heavy criticism from some political quarters regarding its factual accuracy. With the sequel, the makers appear to be doubling down on their claim that the “harsh truths” presented on screen are backed by real-world evidence.
