Priyadarshan Rallies Behind Rajpal Yadav: Director Urges Producers to Hike Actor’s Pay Amid Financial Crisis

In a heartwarming display of industry camaraderie, veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan has stepped forward to support actor Rajpal Yadav, who is currently navigating a severe legal and financial storm. The director has reportedly requested the producers of his upcoming film to significantly increase Yadav’s remuneration, aiming to provide a financial lifeline to the actor.

The move comes at a critical time for Rajpal Yadav, who was recently incarcerated in Delhi’s Tihar Jail in connection with a long-standing ₹9 crore cheque bounce case. The legal battle stems from a loan the actor took back in 2010 to fund his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. Following the film’s poor performance at the box office, the debt escalated over the years, leading to the current crisis.

A Two-Decade Bond
Speaking about his decision, Priyadarshan highlighted his 20-year-old association with the actor. The director first noticed Yadav’s potential in the 2000 film Jungle and later cast him in the 2006 hit Malamaal Weekly. Since then, Yadav has been a staple in Priyadarshan’s filmography, appearing in cult classics like Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Chup Chup Ke, and De Dana Dan.

“I told the producers of my next film to pay Rajpal more than what he charges because of his situation. We want to save him,” Priyadarshan stated in a recent interview. “The producers have agreed. Rajpal plays the villain in my movie.”

The director further noted that the upcoming project, produced by Jubilee Films, features Yadav in a negative role alongside Pankaj Tripathi.

“A Blunder of Circumstance”
Priyadarshan offered a candid take on the actor’s predicament, attributing the financial mess to a lack of formal education rather than malice. He described Yadav as a “good soul” who made a series of “blunders” while trying to navigate the complexities of film financing.

The filmmaker revealed that he has been aware of Yadav’s struggles for years and has consistently tried to help by casting him in various projects and even pushing for him in advertisement films.

Industry Support Grows
Priyadarshan is not the only industry heavyweight standing by the actor. Reports suggest that other stars, including Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Sonu Sood, have also extended their support in various forms.

Currently, Priyadarshan is also busy with the post-production of his highly anticipated horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla, starring Akshay Kumar, which is slated for release on April 10, 2026. Despite his packed schedule, the director remains committed to ensuring his longtime collaborator is not left behind.

As the legal proceedings continue, the support from one of Bollywood’s most successful directors serves as a powerful reminder of the personal bonds that exist behind the glitz and glamour of the silver screen. To know such latest updates tuned tellyboosters.com Thank you!
