Moments of genuine recognition are rare and even rarer when they come from someone who has redefined global success. At Harvard University ahead of the prestigious India Conference an unexpected yet powerful exchange unfolded when Priyanka Chopra Jonas paused mid-conversation and shifted the focus away from herself.
Instead she chose to celebrate the woman sitting across from her Simi Shah CEO and host of the South Asian Trailblazers Podcast.
“Thank you for doing what you do”Priyanka said acknowledging Simi’s work. She went on to praise her for speaking to influential voices across industries and for asking “astute questions”calling her a trailblazer in her own right. The room instantly felt the weight of the moment an interviewer being recognised by the very icon she was interviewing.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas who has seamlessly bridged Indian cinema and Hollywood understands the importance of owning one’s narrative. From winning the Miss World title in 2000 to becoming one of the few South Asian actors to lead major American television series and global films, Priyanka’s journey has been defined by breaking barriers.
Beyond acting she is also a producer, entrepreneur, humanitarian, and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador consistently using her platform to amplify underrepresented voices. Her recognition of Simi Shah was not just a compliment but a reflection of her long-standing belief in community-driven success.
What began as a passion project during Simi Shah’s college years has now grown into a movement. A Harvard alumna and Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree Simi has built South Asian Trailblazers into a platform that spans over 93 countries featuring conversations with 90+ influential leaders from Fortune 500 CEOs and policymakers to artists, founders and cultural icons.
The podcast has steadily become a space where South Asian excellence is documented, celebrated and preserved on its own terms.
Entrepreneur and talent manager Anjula Acharia also acknowledged the significance of the platform during the conversation highlighting how South Asian Trailblazers have helped the community feel seen and celebrated.
Priyanka echoed that sentiment strongly emphasising the importance of solidarity within the diaspora. She noted how essential it is for people to uplift one another and praised the platform for giving so many South Asian voices the opportunity to shine globally.
At its heart South Asian Trailblazers was created to reclaim narrative ownership to ensure that South Asian stories are told with depth, dignity, and pride. And in that defining moment at Harvard the mission came full circle.
The spotlight briefly shifted. The storyteller became the story. And the trailblazer was recognised by those who know the value of blazing trails better than anyone else.
