Priyanka Chopra Jonas Reflects on Being “Pushed Into a Corner” Before Hollywood Leap

In a series of recent, candid reflections, global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas has opened up about the turbulent final years of her primary career in India, describing a period where she felt “cornered” and “drowned” by industry politics. These revelations provide a rare, behind-the-scenes look at why one of Bollywood’s most successful leading ladies decided to leave it all behind for a fresh start in the West.

Seeking a Way Out
Speaking on several platforms, including a notable appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast and recent interviews in February 2026, Chopra Jonas explained that her move to America was not just a quest for global stardom, but a necessary escape.

“I was being pushed into a corner in the industry,” she admitted. “I had people not casting me for reasons. I had beef with people.” The actress, known for her roles in hits like Fashion and Barfi!, confessed that she was never “good at playing the game” and had grown weary of the internal politics that dictated work opportunities.

The Turning Point
Chopra Jonas described a feeling of being “limited” creatively and emotionally. Despite being at the top of her game, the environment in Hindi cinema had become “tumultuous.” She noted that the lack of a “Godfather” or multi-generational film family meant she had to “hustle” harder than most, and when political friction arose, the support system she needed simply wasn’t there.

“I didn’t want to engage as much at the time… I was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break.”

This exhaustion eventually led her to take a leap of faith into the U.S. music industry in 2012, which served as her gateway to Hollywood.

Building a New Legacy
The transition was far from easy. Chopra Jonas recalled the humility of her early days in America—waiting 15 hours on sets for small roles and sharing “triple banger” trailers with other actors, experiences she hadn’t faced in years back home.

However, she views these struggles through a lens of forgiveness today. “I moved on a long time ago, and I made my peace with it,” she stated, emphasizing that she is now in a place where she can pick and choose work that truly inspires her.

“I would hate to have to choose between the two,” she said. “I feel like I straddle both worlds, and I enjoy working in both industries.”
