Rupali Ganguly was born on 5th April 1977 in a Bengali-Hindi family in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Her father Anil Ganguly was a well-known director. She studied Hotel Management. Rupali made her acting debut at the age of 7 in the 1985 film Saaheb directed by her father. Being the daughter of a filmmaker she was exposed to the world of cinema early in life. In 1990 she appeared in the Bengali film Balidan which was a blockbuster hit. Despite this success Rupali couldn’t build a sustained career in Indian cinema.
Rupali made her television debut in 2000 with Sukanya. She gained nationwide fame for her role as Monisha a middle-class woman married into a high-society family in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai a cult sitcom that received massive recognition and critical acclaim. She later appeared in several hit shows like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Parvarrish, showcasing her versatility as an actress.
Rupali also participated in reality shows like Bigg Boss 1, Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 2 ,and the dance show Zara Nachke Dikha. She lent her voice to the animated film Dashavatar. Rupali also owns an advertising agency in Mumbai.
Rupali made a grand comeback with Star Plus’ show Anupamaa a remake of the Bengali series Sreemoyee which premiered on 13th July 2020. Her portrayal of Anupama Joshi became an instant hit giving her massive nationwide recognition. Audiences adore her as Anu Joshi and she continues to win hearts with her performance.
Rupali Ganguly married businessman Ashwin K. Verma on 6th February 2013. The couple has a son, Rudransh Verma, born on 25th August 2013. She has 3 million followers on Instagram and is an animal lover. Apart from television she began her political career on 1st May 2024 by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Rupali landed in controversy in November 2024 when her stepdaughter Esha Verma posted a video accusing her father Ashwin K. Verma of harassing her mother. Rupali filed a ₹50 crore defamation lawsuit against Esha after the allegations. Esha later deleted the post. Rupali is also often in the news regarding rumours of conflicts with her Anupamaa co-stars.
