The New King of the Box Office: How ‘Dhurandhar’ Rewrote History

For the past couple of years, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan sat comfortably on the throne as the ultimate Bollywood benchmark, with a staggering worldwide gross of ₹1,160 crore. But records are meant to be broken, and Dhurandhar has done so with a relentless, record-smashing run that has left trade analysts in awe.

By its 29th day in theaters, Dhurandhar minted approximately ₹1,167 crore globally. What makes this feat truly extraordinary is that unlike many of its predecessors, it achieved these numbers without a release in China—a territory that often acts as a massive “multiplier” for Indian films like Dangal.

When we talk about the highest-grossing Indian films of all time, the list is usually dominated by movies that had massive runs in China (Dangal) or were multi-lingual South Indian spectacles (Baahubali 2, RRR, KGF 2).
Dhurandhar has carved out its own unique legacy. It is now the No. 1 Bollywood film worldwide (Excluding China). Even more impressive is that it achieved this as a single-language Hindi release, whereas Jawan’s total included significant contributions from its Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions.

Directed by Aditya Dhar of Uri fame, the film struck a chord with its gritty, realistic portrayal of a RAW agent (Ranveer Singh) infiltrating the underworld of Karachi’s Lyari district. Ranveer Singh’s intense transformation and Akshaye Khanna’s chilling portrayal of a gang leader have been cited as the “soul” of the movie.

In India alone, the film has crossed the ₹740 crore net mark, making it the first-ever Bollywood film to enter the ₹700 crore club domestically. The film saw an unprecedented run in the United States and Canada, earning over $18 million, a territory usually dominated by family dramas or SRK-led actioners.

The New Worldwide Top 10 (Indian Cinema)
While Aamir Khan’s Dangal remains at the top of the overall global list due to its nearly ₹1,300 crore collection from China alone, Dhurandhar has climbed to the 6th spot among all Indian films globally.

The success of Dhurandhar signals a shift in what the global audience expects from Indian cinema. It wasn’t just “masala” that won; it was a blend of high-stakes espionage, technical brilliance, and a narrative that felt grounded yet “larger than life.” By beating Jawan, Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar haven’t just delivered a hit; they’ve set a new gold standard for the industry.

The industry is now looking toward Dhurandhar 2, with expectations that it might be the first Hindi film to challenge the ₹1,500 crore mark without needing the China market to get there. To know such latest updates tuned to tellyboosters.com Thank you!
