After weeks of facing relentless online trolling and skepticism, Bollywood star Varun Dhawan has finally broken his silence. Following the massive box office success of the war epic Border 2, the actor took a victory lap on social media, sending a clear message to those who doubted his casting in the high-stakes sequel.

The film, which serves as the spiritual successor to JP Dutta’s 1997 cult classic, has taken the Indian box office by storm since its release on January 23, 2026. Despite the “tsunami” of memes that preceded the premiere, the audience’s verdict has been overwhelmingly positive.

Before the film’s release, Varun Dhawan was at the center of a social media firestorm. Trolls frequently targeted his facial expressions in the promotional song “Ghar Kab Aaoge”, with some questioning if he could live up to the rugged legacy of the original Border cast.

On Republic Day, as the film officially crossed the ₹175 crore mark domestically, Varun shared a powerful image on his Instagram Story. Standing in his car and surrounded by a sea of cheering fans, he held the National Flag high. The caption was short but pointed.

“Border 2. Love will always triumph hate. Thank you.”

This wasn’t the first time Varun addressed the negativity, though his previous responses were more reserved. During the film’s “Braves of the Soil” trailer launch, he emphasized his philosophy of “shutting out the noise.”

“I believe you let your work do the talking,” he told reporters at the event. “I don’t work for the trolling; I work for the audience who goes to the theatre to be entertained. When they step inside, they forget the memes and focus on the story.”

Border 2 has proven to be a juggernaut, benefiting significantly from the Republic Day long weekend. The film’s trajectory shows a rare upward trend that trade analysts are comparing to the success of Gadar 2.

The film has also crossed ₹240 crore worldwide, making it the first major Bollywood hit of 2026.

While the trolls were loud, Varun found a staunch ally in veteran actor Suniel Shetty, who starred in the original 1997 film. Shetty had earlier come out in defense of Varun, stating that people were being too quick to judge a performance based on a few seconds of footage.

“Varun is playing a decorated officer who gave his life for the country,” Shetty remarked. “It’s very easy to run someone down today, but his performance is outstanding.”

With the film heading toward the ₹300 crore club, it seems Varun Dhawan has successfully transitioned from “meme-target” to a legitimate war-drama lead, proving once again that in Bollywood, the box office is the ultimate equalizer. To know such latest updates tuned to tellyboosters.com Thank you!
