Legendary Bollywood screenwriter Salim Khan, 90, was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, after suffering a minor brain hemorrhage. The news sent waves of concern throughout the film industry and among his vast fan base, but recent medical updates suggest the veteran is on the road to recovery.

The Medical Situation
According to Dr. Jalil Parkar, the pulmonologist treating him, Salim Khan was brought to the hospital by his family physician, Dr. Sandeep Chopra, following a sudden spike in blood pressure. Upon arrival, he was experiencing “jerks” and high blood pressure, leading to his immediate admission into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

While initial reports circulating on social media suggested a critical condition or major surgery, Dr. Parkar clarified the situation to the press on Wednesday.

“There was a minimal brain hemorrhage, which did not require any surgical intervention,” Dr. Parkar stated. “A procedure called DSA (Digital Subtraction Angiography) was performed on Wednesday morning and was successful. He is stable and doing quite well.”

Current Recovery Status
As a precautionary measure given his age, the screenwriter was placed on a ventilator to ensure stability while his medical team conducted necessary investigations. Doctors have confirmed that he is hemodynamically stable and they expect to wean him off ventilator support by Thursday, February 19.

The medical team, which includes neurologist Dr. Vinay Chavan and neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange, remains optimistic. However, they emphasized that due to his age of 90, the recovery process will be gradual and require close observation for several more days.

Family and Industry Support
The Khan family has been a constant presence at the hospital since Tuesday morning. Superstar Salman Khan was seen arriving shortly after his father’s admission, appearing visibly concerned. Other family members, including Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, Alvira Agnihotri, and Arpita Khan Sharma, have also been visiting.

The hospital has seen a steady stream of high-profile visitors, reflecting Salim Khan’s immense influence on Indian cinema Helen, Salim Khan’s wife, visited for two consecutive days.

Javed Akhtar, his long-time writing partner, visited twice to check on his health. Sanjay Dutt and Sangeeta Bijlani were also spotted at the medical facility.
