After captivating audiences with her intense performance in the legal drama Haq, Yami Gautam Dhar is all set to pivot toward a lighter yet eerie territory. The actress has officially been announced as the lead for the upcoming horror-comedy titled Nayyi Navelli.

The project marks a significant first for the industry, bringing together Yami Gautam and acclaimed filmmaker Aanand L Rai’s banner, Colour Yellow Productions. Adding to the excitement, the film will be the Hindi directorial debut of Balaji Mohan, the creative mind behind the hit Tamil franchise Maari.

A Perfect Bride with a Sinister Secret
Set against the vibrant and often chaotic backdrop of Meerut, Nayyi Navelli promises a story that is as funny as it is frightening. The film follows a “picture-perfect” bride (played by Yami) who arrives at her new home and quickly transforms the messy household into a literal slice of heaven.

However, the domestic bliss is short-lived. According to the official synopsis shared by the makers:
“The ideal bahu could very well be an evil force from an outer world! Can this family survive her?”

Suspicion begins to brew when her brother-in-law starts noticing that her “perfect” behavior might be a facade for something far more sinister and perhaps supernatural.

From Theaters to Digital Screens
In a move that highlights the evolving distribution landscape, the makers have confirmed that Nayyi Navelli will have a dedicated theatrical release before making its way to Amazon Prime Video.

Speaking at a recent Prime Video event in Mumbai, Yami expressed her enthusiasm for the “hatke” (unique) role. “I am a huge fan of originality. When you have a fresh idea and creative powerhouses like Aanand sir, Himanshu Sharma, and Balaji Mohan involved, you know you’re part of something special,” she told the audience.

Behind the Scenes
The film is written by the duo of Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma, who are known for their ability to blend slice-of-life humor with emotional depth. Production reportedly kicked off in February 2026, with the team aiming to draw inspiration from Indian folklore and mythology to give the horror elements a rooted, authentic feel.

For Yami, this marks another bold choice in a career defined by versatility. Coming off the back of Dhurandhar: The Revenge—which is currently performing well at the box office—Nayyi Navelli looks to cement her status as an actress who isn’t afraid to experiment with genres. To know
