Bollywood actress and environmental advocate Bhumi Pednekar has issued a deeply heartfelt public appeal to educator and social activist Sonam Wangchuk, urging him to end his indefinite fast as his hunger strike reached its 26th day. The prominent activist initiated his fast in late June at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in solidarity with student demonstrations led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), demanding comprehensive educational reforms and strict accountability following national examination paper leak controversies. Expressing immense concern for his declining physical health after he was moved from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram under medical supervision, Bhumi took to her social media platform to write an emotional message emphasizing how vital his presence, wisdom, and leadership remain for the country. In her note, she humbly requested Wangchuk to break his fast and trust the ongoing legal and institutional processes, stating that India truly needs his voice, vision, and overall well-being.

Highlighting the widespread impact of his sacrifice, the actress noted that his steadfast concerns have resonated deeply with millions of citizens across the nation, pointing out that positive developments are already beginning to surface. She specifically highlighted the recent announcements made by the Prime Minister regarding the establishment of fast-track courts to ensure swift legal action against those responsible for examination leaks, viewing it as clear evidence that Wangchuk’s movement has compelled concrete government action. Concluding her message with a hope for continued peaceful dialogue between student representatives and government authorities, Bhumi urged all parties to ensure that violence is completely eradicated from the movement and that ulterior political agendas do not hijack such a crucial national issue. Meanwhile, Wangchuk has indicated that he remains willing to break his hunger strike if official assurances are granted guaranteeing that no retaliatory legal actions or FIRs will be pressed against young protesters involved in the demonstrations.
