Bollywood actress and environmental activist Bhumi Pednekar recently stepped onto the ground to support flood-affected families in Assam, joining direct relief operations alongside the Bharat Disaster Relief Foundation (BDRF). Traversed through heavily inundated districts, including flood-hit regions like Sivasagar, the actor was seen wading through knee-deep water, navigating submerged roads in boats, and traveling late into the night to deliver critical aid packets to displaced residents. Sharing a glimpse of the harrowing ground reality on social media, Bhumi pointed out how navigating the area had become nearly impossible as submerged routes were completely unrecognisable, noting while traveling around eleven in the evening that Google Maps indicated a road ahead, yet everywhere around them was completely filled with water.
During her relief visit, Bhumi actively distributed solar-powered lights, food supplies, and essential survival kits to families residing in temporary shelters and waterlogged homes. Explaining the critical necessity of solar lights, the actress highlighted that standing floodwaters had failed to recede for nearly three weeks, leaving communities stranded without electricity or safe lighting. She emphasized that after sunset, a reliable light source becomes far more than a basic amenity, offering displaced families protection against venomous snakes and reptiles creeping into flooded shelters while bringing comfort, safety, and a sense of hope during a distressing time.
Reflecting on the severe hardship faced by local residents, Bhumi urged people to understand the gravity of the situation, stating that one has to experience the harsh reality firsthand to truly comprehend the extreme conditions on the ground. She praised the tireless efforts of BDRF volunteers who continue working around the clock regardless of the hour to deliver life-saving relief supplies. Bhumi joins a growing group of public figures stepping forward to assist flood-ravaged communities in Assam, with actor Randeep Hooda recently serving hot meals with Global Sikhs in Sivasagar and comedian Samay Raina contributing ten lakh rupees to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
