Eetha Release Postponed: Shraddha Kapoor Film on Vithabai Narayangaonkar Avoids Clash With Yash’s Toxic

Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor’s upcoming biographical dance drama Eetha, directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, has officially deferred its theatrical premiere to December 4, 2026. Originally locked for an August 28 release during the festive Raksha Bandhan weekend, the makers decided to reschedule the project to avoid a high-voltage box office collision with Kannada superstar Yash’s action thriller Toxic: A Fairytale for Grownups, which is slated to arrive worldwide on August 26. By shifting the release window by over three months, the production team aims to give the period film adequate breathing room at the box office, allowing audiences across the country to experience the inspiring life story of Maharashtra’s celebrated folk artist without split screen counts or immediate theatrical competition.
The upcoming film traces the extraordinary journey of Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, a legendary icon in the traditional Marathi Lavani and Tamasha art forms who dedicated her entire life to her craft. Shraddha Kapoor leads the biographical drama in the titular role, supported by a power-packed ensemble cast that includes Randeep Hooda, Nana Patekar, Siddharth Jadhav, and Zeeshan Ayyub. Early promotional footage released earlier this summer offered viewers a glimpse of Shraddha’s intense transformation, showcasing a dramatic moment where her character braves intense labor pains backstage, delivers her child in the green room, and immediately returns to the stage to perform in front of an eager audience, underscoring the incredible resilience that defined Vithabai’s legacy.
The decision to avert the box office face-off comes amidst significant schedule realignments across major Indian cinema releases this year. Geethu Mohandas’ directorial venture Toxic, backed by KVN Productions and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, has generated immense global anticipation, making a solo theatrical release crucial for both high-budget projects. With music composed by the celebrated duo Ajay-Atul, Eetha reunites director Laxman Utekar and producer Dinesh Vijan following their previous successful collaborations like Mimi and Chhaava. Fans of Shraddha Kapoor will now have to wait a little longer to see her step into this challenging biographical role as the project completes its post-production process ahead of its December debut.
