Filmmaker Abhishek Pathak recently shared candid details about the sudden exit of actor Akshaye Khanna from the highly anticipated thriller film Drishyam 3, just seven days before the filming was scheduled to begin. The unexpected departure caused a major ripple across the production team, as everything was already set up and the shooting schedules were fully locked. The director explained that cancelling or postponing the shoot was simply not an option for him because hundreds of daily wage workers, light assistants, spot boys, and crew members were depending on the film for their livelihoods. Huge sets had already been constructed in Goa, and all the lead actors, including Ajay Devgn and Tabu, had aligned their busy dates for the continuous shooting schedule. Deciding to honor everyone’s time and effort, Abhishek Pathak made the bold call to keep the production moving forward on time and rewrite the character completely instead of having a new actor simply mirror Akshaye Khanna’s previous role.
Within a couple of days, talented actor Jaideep Ahlawat was roped in to join the cast. When Abhishek Pathak approached him, Jaideep asked if it was a casting change or a complete character overhaul, to which the filmmaker assured him that a fresh character was being created specifically for him. In less than a week, the team managed to rewrite the required portions, complete basic script readings, finish a quick look test in Mumbai, and seamlessly bring Jaideep into the universe of the hit franchise.
