In a candid new interview that has captured the attention of Bollywood enthusiasts, actor Imran Khan has opened up about his complex relationship with contemporary Ranbir Kapoor, admitting that he finds it “hard to talk about” the latter’s professional evolution in recent years.
The Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na star, who recently made a soft return to the spotlight with a cameo in Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, revealed that his long sabbatical from the film industry led to a significant disconnect from Indian cinema. Speaking to News18, Imran confessed that he has yet to watch Ranbir’s 2023 blockbuster Animal, which served as a massive turning point in Kapoor’s career.
During the late 2000s, Imran and Ranbir were frequently pitted against each other as the “next big things” of Bollywood. Imran reflected on how this external pressure—often fueled by media narratives and talk show segments—hindered the possibility of a genuine friendship.
“You hear something, you read something. Because of the way that played out even within the media narratives, it perhaps hindered the ability of developing any kind of a truthful relationship,” Imran shared.
He noted that while both grew up in the same Bandra circles and are only months apart in age, the “weird facet” of the business is that male actors rarely have the opportunity to bond unless they are working on the same set.
Despite not being up-to-date with Ranbir’s latest filmography, Imran was quick to praise his peer’s fundamental talent. He described Ranbir as a “tremendously strong actor” and a “thinking cinema person.”
“He has a strong instinct and thinks deeply about the craft of acting and the language of cinema,” Imran added, noting that this depth was always evident in the work he watched before his hiatus.
The contrast between the two actors’ journeys is stark: Ranbir Kapoor: Has ascended to superstar status with experimental and high-octane roles. He is currently preparing for major projects like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. Imran Khan: After a decade-long break, he is gradually re-entering the industry, with reports suggesting a full-fledged comeback in the project Adhoore Hum Adhoore Tum alongside Bhumi Pednekar.
As Imran prepares for his next chapter, his comments serve as a refreshing look at the human side of the film industry—one where competition is often more of a public construct than a personal reality. To know such latest updates tuned tellyboosters.com Thank you!
