The Return of the Titans: Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna Reunite After 29 Years for Netflix’s Legal Thriller ‘Ikka’

In a move that has sent shockwaves of nostalgia and excitement through the film industry, Netflix India today officially announced Ikka, a high-stakes legal drama that reunites two of Indian cinema’s most formidable powerhouses: Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna.

This monumental collaboration marks the first time the duo will share the screen in 29 years, their last outing being the 1997 war epic Border. While they once fought side-by-side in the trenches of Longewala, Ikka sees them locked in a fierce ideological and legal battle within the cold, hard walls of a courtroom.

Directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra (fresh off the success of Maharaj), Ikka is billed as a “gritty, raw, and deeply personal” thriller. The story follows a celebrated, incorruptible lawyer (played by Sunny Deol) who finds his world turned upside down when he is coerced into a “deal with the devil.”

The veteran advocate is arm-twisted into defending a man accused of murder—the very man whose career he had notoriously destroyed years prior (played by Akshaye Khanna). To protect his family and everything he holds dear, the principled lawyer must now navigate a moral labyrinth, using every ethical (and unethical) trick in the trade to win a case he never wanted to take.

The first-look teaser, unveiled at the Next on Netflix event in Mumbai, has already sparked a frenzy online. Fans have been quick to point out the cinematic parallels: Sunny Deol’s return to the black robe is a nostalgic nod to his legendary role in the 1993 classic Damini. The teaser hints at that same trademark intensity, with a glimpse of Deol’s character confronting Khanna in court.

Akshaye Khanna arrives on the heels of his massive success as Rehman Dakait in Dhurandhar. In Ikka, he portrays a menacing figure with a calculated, quiet intensity that serves as the perfect foil to Deol’s explosive energy.

While the Deol-Khanna face-off is the main draw, Ikka boasts an impressive supporting cast that adds layers of emotional depth to the narrative. The film featuresDia Mirza and Tillotama Shome in pivotal, high-impact roles.
Sanjeeda Shaikh, Shishir Sharma, and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor round out the ensemble.

Written by Althea Kaushal, Mayank Tewari, and Siddharth P. Malhotra, the script has been in development for years, promising a “relentless thriller packed with twists and turns galore.”

“We are thrilled to bring Ikka to a global audience. This script explores a riveting face-off between two arch-rivals bound by painful memories,” shared the team at Alchemy Films. “To have Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna together, at the peak of their second innings, is truly a gift from the cosmos.”

With Sunny Deol riding high on the success of Border 2 and Akshaye Khanna dominating the charts with his recent spy thrillers, Ikka is positioned to be one of the most significant digital releases of 2026. To know such latest updates tuned tellyboosters.com Thank you!
