The cameras are rolling on the sequel to the sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD, and the energy on set is reportedly electric. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan took to his blog this week to confirm that production for Kalki 2 has officially commenced in Hyderabad. More importantly, he shared a nostalgic milestone: his reunion with the legendary Kamal Haasan.
“Working Together After Ages”
In a post that quickly went viral among cinephiles, Bachchan expressed his excitement about collaborating with Haasan once again. Sharing a warm picture of the two from the set, he noted that they are working together after “ages.”
“And meeting up with the great KAMAL HAASAN… we shall be working together after ages… last in Giraftar,” Bachchan wrote.
The reference to the 1985 film Geraftaar—which also featured Rajinikanth—struck a chord with fans, marking a gap of nearly 41 years since the two legends last shared the screen. While both appeared in the first Kalki installment, they did not have any scenes together, making this sequel the first time in four decades that audiences will see them face-to-face.
Behind the Scenes in Hyderabad
Due to the intense shooting schedule, the 83-year-old actor had to skip his customary Sunday “Darshan” at his residence, Jalsa. He apologized to the fans who gathered outside his home, explaining that “work comes first” as he undergoes the grueling prosthetic process to transform back into the immortal Ashwatthama.
The Setting: Filming is currently taking place at a specialized set in Shankarpally, Hyderabad.
The Roles: Bachchan reprises his role as the protector Ashwatthama, while Kamal Haasan is set to take center stage as the primary antagonist, Supreme Yaskin.
