Known for her versatility and depth, Mona Singh is currently the talk of the town as she prepares for the release of Subedaar. Breaking away from her previous roles, Singh portrays the primary antagonist, a powerful “kingpin” of the sand mafia who goes head-to-head with a retired soldier played by Anil Kapoor.

At the recent trailer launch, Mona didn’t hold back about her excitement—and initial shock—when director Suresh Triveni offered her the role. She recalled her first reaction as, “Arey baap re! Yeh kya de diya mujhe?” (Oh my God! What have you given me?).
Despite the name “Babli,” the character is anything but bubbly. Mona describes Babli Didi as Unapologetically Flawed: She isn’t a hero, and she isn’t looking for redemption. Making “Subedaar Ji” Miserable
One of the most anticipated aspects of the film is the face-off between Mona Singh and Anil Kapoor. Mona joked during her interview that she has made “Subedaar Ji” (Kapoor’s character) very sad throughout the entire movie. While Kapoor plays a disciplined ex-soldier trying to navigate civilian life, Mona represents the corruption and lawlessness he must fight to protect his family.
Why She Chose the Role
Mona Singh has been on a roll lately with hits like Kohrra and Munjya. She explained that she consciously looks for roles that give her “sleepless nights.”
“I have always tried not to play the same role twice. I want to do things that surprise me and challenge me. Babli Didi pushed me out of my comfort zone—from the look and behavior to the attitude,” Singh shared.
She emphasized that she no longer cares about “looking good” on screen. Instead, she wants to look the part, even if that means showing the “fatigue and sweat” of a gritty character.
