In a move that has sent ripples of excitement through the Indian film industry, acclaimed director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari has officially announced her next venture, a gritty courtroom drama titled System. The film is set to bring together two of cinema’s most formidable female leads: Bollywood’s Sonakshi Sinha and South Indian megastar Jyotika.
Scheduled for an exclusive release on Amazon Prime Video in late 2026, System marks a significant shift for Tiwari, who is widely celebrated for her heartwarming, slice-of-life narratives like Nil Battey Sannata and Bareilly Ki Barfi. With this project, she dives into the high-stakes world of legal battles and moral ambiguity.
A Clash of Titans
The narrative of System centers on a profound social and professional divide. Sonakshi Sinha steps into the shoes of Neha Rajvansh, a high-profile, privileged public prosecutor who is used to navigating the corridors of power. Her life takes a sharp turn when she crosses paths with Sarika Rawat, played by Jyotika. Unlike the typical “hero vs. villain” legal trope, Jyotika’s character is a humble courtroom stenographer.
As the story unfolds, a complex legal case forces these two women into a confrontation that transcends the courtroom. The film explores how “truth” is often a flexible concept defined by those in power, ultimately blurring the lines of the judicial system and forcing both women to question what justice truly means to them.
Production and Casting Journeys
The road to System has been a long one. Industry insiders reveal that the project was in development for nearly two years, with several casting iterations discussed behind the scenes. Initially, names like Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kiara Advani were linked to the project. However, after a script rework earlier this year, the creative team felt that Sinha and Jyotika brought a specific “grounded intensity” required for the new draft.
For Sonakshi Sinha, this serves as her maiden legal drama, following her recent success in intense OTT roles. For Jyotika, this marks a return to the courtroom genre five years after her powerful performance in the Tamil hit Ponmagal Vandhal (2020). Joining them in a pivotal role is veteran actor and filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, adding further gravitas to the ensemble.
Behind the Scenes
The film is produced by Baweja Studios, with Harman Baweja and Arun Sukumar credited for the screenplay. Director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari also contributed to the additional screenplay alongside Tasneem Lokhandwala.
Filming is reportedly already underway in Mumbai, with elaborate courtroom sets constructed in Malvani and Madh Island to capture the authentic, claustrophobic feel of Indian legal chambers. To know such latest
