Kareena Kapoor Khan Clears the Air: “RK Studios Revival is Not Happening”

For months, the rumors had been gaining momentum, fueled by nostalgia and the collective hope of Bollywood fans. Speculation suggested that the iconic RK Studios, founded by the legendary Raj Kapoor in 1948, was finally set for a grand revival under the leadership of Ranbir Kapoor. However, in a recent candid interaction, Kareena Kapoor Khan has officially put those rumors to rest, calling the reality “heartbreaking” but firm.

Speaking at a media event in Mumbai on March 23, 2026, the actress addressed the reports that her cousin, Ranbir Kapoor, had allegedly signed a 20-year lease for a new space to bring the family banner back to life. Kareena revealed that the news was so widespread it even became a topic of discussion within the private Kapoor family WhatsApp group.

“It’s Just Not True”
“That’s just not true,” Kareena stated, effectively shutting down the viral reports. “It was even being discussed in our family group, and everyone was like, ‘This isn’t happening.’ I feel people really want it to happen, but it’s not.”
The actress acknowledged the deep emotional connection the public has with the RK legacy.

For decades, the RK Studios in Chembur was the heartbeat of Hindi cinema, producing classics like Awaara, Shree 420, and Bobby. However, after a devastating fire in 2017 destroyed irreplaceable memorabilia and sets, the family made the difficult decision to sell the property to Godrej Properties in 2019.

Ranbir’s Focus: Acting Over Production
A major part of the rumors suggested that Ranbir Kapoor would make his directorial debut under the revived banner. Kareena, however, emphasized that Ranbir is currently at the peak of his acting career and isn’t looking to pivot into the complexities of studio management.
“I feel like Ranbir is focused on acting. He loves acting. I think he’s the best actor in India we have today, so his focus is on that,” Kareena added.

While she admitted the idea of a comeback is beautiful, she noted that the responsibility of being a producer or director is not something she sees for herself. She playfully suggested that if it were to ever happen, it would have to be a joint effort between her sister, Karisma Kapoor (Lolo), and Ranbir.

What’s Next for Bebo?
While the revival of the family studio isn’t on the cards, Kareena remains as busy as ever. Fresh off the success of Singham Again, she is currently preparing for her next project, Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar. She also expressed a keen interest in exploring the digital space further, mentioning her desire to headline a high-quality miniseries in the near future.

For now, the famous RK logo—depicting Raj Kapoor from Awaara—remains a cherished piece of history rather than a blueprint for a new business venture. As Kareena put it, the family is currently more focused on preserving memories than launching a traditional comeback. To
