The Real Reason Sonu Sood Walked Away from Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg 2’: “I Didn’t Understand the Part”

In a recent interview that has caught the attention of Bollywood fans, actor Sonu Sood opened up about his decision to step away from the 2012 blockbuster sequel, Dabangg 2. Despite his iconic portrayal of the villain Chhedi Singh in the original 2010 film, Sood revealed that he chose to decline the sequel because he “didn’t really understand the part.”

A Conflict of Vision: Why the “Messiah” Said No
Sonu Sood’s performance as the quirky, muscular antagonist Chhedi Singh remains one of the most memorable parts of the Dabangg franchise. However, when it came time for the sequel, the actor felt the creative spark was missing.

According to Sood, Salman Khan and director-producer Arbaaz Khan were eager to have him return. The initial idea was for him to play Chhedi Singh’s twin brother, who would seek revenge against Salman’s Chulbul Pandey.
Key Reasons for the Departure:

Weak Script: Sood mentioned that unlike the first film, where he worked closely with director Abhinav Kashyap to add humor and depth to his character, the script for Dabangg 2 didn’t feel right.

Character Depth: He felt the new role lacked the “excitement” and impact of the original. “I knew I wouldn’t be able to repair it much,” he admitted, referring to how he had personally rewritten and tweaked his role in the first movie to make it more entertaining.

Creative Integrity: Sood emphasized that he has never chosen films based solely on money. If a role doesn’t resonate with him during the narration, he prefers to walk away rather than struggle on set.

Friendship Above Film
Despite the professional “no,” there was no bad blood between the stars. Sonu Sood shared that he was very upfront with Arbaaz Khan about his hesitation.
“I told him that I do not understand this role… I excused myself and I wished them well,” Sood recalled.

The bond remained so strong that Salman Khan even invited Sonu to the first trial screening of the movie. While Sonu was replaced by actor Prakash Raj (who played the villain Bachcha Singh), the “messiah of the poor” remains a beloved part of the Dabangg legacy. To
