The Drishyam phenomenon shows no signs of slowing down. After conquering the Indian box office in multiple languages and finding success in China and Korea, the gripping thriller is now officially heading to Europe. During the ongoing International Film Festival of Delhi, producer Rodrigo Espinel confirmed that the Spanish-language adaptation of the iconic story is set to go on floors in June 2026.

A Universal Story of Family and Protection
The original story, written and directed by Jeethu Joseph, has become a global benchmark for the suspense-thriller genre.

Whether it was Mohanlal’s masterful performance in the Malayalam original or Ajay Devgn’s intense portrayal of Vijay Salgaonkar in the Hindi version, the core of the film remains the same: how far will a common man go to protect his family?

Producer Rodrigo Espinel shared that this “universal soul” is exactly why the film will resonate with Spanish audiences. He noted that the emotional struggle of a father trying to shield his daughter and a mother seeking the truth about her son transcends cultural boundaries.

While the plot will follow the familiar cat-and-mouse game between a clever protagonist and the police, the setting and cultural nuances will be tailored to fit the Spanish lifestyle. This move is part of Panorama Studios’ larger mission to see Drishyam adapted in 10 different countries over the next few years.

The ‘Drishyam’ Legacy Continues

While Spain prepares for its version this June, the Indian audience is eagerly awaiting Drishyam 3, which is slated for a theatrical release on October 2, 2026. The upcoming installment will see Ajay Devgn return to his role, with new additions like Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj joining the cast.

From a small cable operator’s story in Kerala to a high-profile European production, Drishyam has proven that a strong, human-centric script is the ultimate “hero” of cinema.
