The city of angels witnessed the dawn of an Indian epic this week as actor Ranbir Kapoor, alongside director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra, unveiled the first exclusive glimpse of their ambitious project, Ramayana, at a star-studded event in Burbank.
The preview, titled ‘Rama’, was showcased to a select audience at an IMAX theater, marking the beginning of what the makers describe as a “global rollout” for the cinematic retelling of the ancient scripture. While the official public release of the teaser is slated for April 2, 2026, to coincide with Hanuman Jayanti, those in attendance were given a rare, early look at the scale and vision of the film.
A “Labour of Love”
Taking the stage during a Q&A session, Ranbir Kapoor—who portrays Lord Rama—appeared in a dapper traditional bandhgala, reflecting the gravity of the role he has undertaken. Addressing the crowd, Kapoor described the film as a “labour of love” and expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to bring such a foundational figure to the global screen.
“Lord Ram has been the conscience keeper of billions for centuries,” Kapoor told the audience. “He stands for compassion, courage, and righteousness. To be the first to show you this vision is a moment I will cherish forever.”
Director Nitesh Tiwari, known for his meticulous storytelling in Dangal, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that the film aims to maintain the soul of the original epic while utilizing world-class visual effects to meet modern cinematic standards.
Reactions from the Room
Although recording was strictly prohibited during the screening, the energy in the room was reportedly electric. Social media has since been flooded with “first-hand” accounts from lucky attendees. One viral post described a particularly moving moment in the teaser where Rama is seen sitting in a boat; as his name is called, he turns slowly toward the camera—a shot that reportedly left many in the theater emotional.
The teaser is said to have a runtime of approximately 2 minutes and 38 seconds, recently cleared by the CBFC, promising a substantial look at the world Tiwari has built.
A Stellar Collaboration
The project is shaping up to be one of the biggest cinematic undertakings in Indian history. Beyond the lead cast, which includes Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash (of KGF fame) as Ravana, the film boasts a historic musical collaboration between legendary composer A.R. Rahman and Hollywood titan Hans Zimmer.
Producer Namit Malhotra, the visionary behind the VFX giant DNEG, noted that the film is designed for the IMAX format to ensure that the “grandeur of our history” is felt in every frame.
The Road Ahead
Following the success of the Los Angeles preview, the team is now heading back to India for a grand launch event in Mumbai.
Public Teaser Release: April 2, 2026 (Hanuman Jayanti). Part 1 Release Date will release on Diwali 2026. And Part 2 Release Date is set to release on Diwali 2027.
As the countdown to April 2 begins, the “Rama” glimpse has successfully set a high bar, turning a regional legend into a global talking point. For fans waiting back home, the message from LA is clear: the wait for this “modern classic” might just be worth it. To
