Behind the Veil: Why Ravie Dubey Kept His ‘Ramayana’ Casting a Secret from Wife Sargun Mehta

In an industry where “leaks” are often a marketing strategy, actor Ravie Dubey has managed to pull off the ultimate disappearing act. While fans have been buzzing about his role as Lakshman in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming magnum opus Ramayana, the person closest to him—his wife, actress and producer Sargun Mehta—was kept entirely in the dark for months.

The revelation came to light following a recent teaser release and subsequent interviews where the power couple shared the hilarious, yet disciplined, reasons behind the radio silence at home.

A Strict “No-Work” Policy
For those wondering how a husband can hide a role in one of India’s most anticipated films from his wife, the answer lies in a long-standing pact. Ravie and Sargun, who have been married since 2013, have a strict rule: they do not discuss their individual projects at home.

Sargun revealed in a recent podcast that their professional lives remain separate until an official announcement is made. “We don’t really talk about work at home,” she explained. “Just like he doesn’t know what I’m doing until it’s public, I don’t find out about his work either.”

The “Kaam Pe Ja Raha Hoon” Chronicles
Even as Ravie began filming alongside Ranbir Kapoor (who plays Lord Ram), he remained tight-lipped. Whenever Sargun asked where he was heading for the day, Ravie’s standard response was a brief, “Kaam pe ja raha hoon” (I’m going to work).

He never mentioned he was heading to a film set, let alone one of the most expensive mythological productions in Indian cinema history.

“Even when the media started trending reports about him playing Lakshman, he stayed quiet,” Sargun shared with a laugh. “I actually had to hear the news from outsiders who congratulated me. I had to stop them because I wasn’t even supposed to know!”

A Matter of Sanctity
For Ravie, the secrecy wasn’t about a lack of trust, but rather a deep respect for the project. The actor has described the experience of working on Ramayana as a “spiritual journey” or a yagya.

“I believe a project like this has a sacred nature,” Ravie stated. “I didn’t want to corrupt the process by talking about it prematurely. There is a sanctity to this story that requires a certain level of surrender.”

The Ranbir Kapoor “Gossip” Struggle
While Ravie was focused on the discipline of his role, Sargun admitted her curiosity nearly got the better of her—mostly because of her admiration for the film’s lead, Ranbir Kapoor.

Desperate for “set gossip,” Sargun jokingly recalled trying to squeeze information out of their driver. She asked the driver if Ranbir and Ravie spoke on set, hoping for a glimpse into the production’s atmosphere. While the driver confirmed they were friendly, Ravie had reportedly instructed the staff not to share “set ki baatein” (set talk) at home.

What’s Next for the Duo?
Despite the domestic “information blackout,” the couple remains one of the most supportive units in the industry. As Ravie prepares for the release of Ramayana: Part 1 (slated for Diwali 2026), the duo continues to thrive with their production house, Dreamiyata Entertainment.

For now, the secret is finally out, and fans are eager to see if Ravie’s real-life discipline translates into the unwavering loyalty and strength required for the iconic role of Lakshman. To know such
