In a candid reflection on his journey as both an actor and an entrepreneur, Abhishek Bachchan has revealed that a pivotal moment from his father’s legendary film, Deewaar, serves as the blueprint for his professional life.
Speaking at a recent business forum, the Guru star shared that the 1975 classic did more than just establish Amitabh Bachchan as the “Angry Young Man”; it taught a younger Abhishek a profound lesson about the intersection of logic and feeling.
The specific scene Abhishek referenced involves the character Vijay (played by Amitabh Bachchan) purchasing a skyscraper. For those familiar with the film, Vijay buys the building where his mother once worked as a manual laborer.
“On paper, that decision makes zero financial sense,” Abhishek explained. “But it wasn’t about the balance sheet; it was about the heart. He bought it because of the emotional connection and the promise he made to himself and his mother.”
Abhishek noted that watching this as a child, and later revisiting it as an adult, left an “indelible mark” on his psyche. It shaped his understanding that while numbers are important, the “why” behind a venture is what truly sustains it.
While Abhishek has built a diverse portfolio—ranging from sports teams like the Jaipur Pink Panthers to tech investments in Swiggy and Zepto—he insists that his approach is far from cold calculation.
“What that film taught me was that there has to be emotion behind the business. If your heart isn’t in it, then what’s the point of doing it?”
He admitted that his investment in delivery platforms like Zepto came from a place of personal satisfaction rather than just market trends. “They got me my misal pav on time,” he joked. “I enjoyed using the product, it made my life easier, and I wanted to be a part of that journey. It’s that simple.”
The actor also touched upon how his financial philosophy is a blend of modern venture capitalism and traditional family values. He credited his father’s belief in real estate—the classic “zameen hai to sab theek hai”.
However, he also highlighted the influence of his wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, noting that her suggestion to diversify into assets like silver shows how family opinions continue to guide his portfolio.
As Abhishek prepares for his upcoming role in the high-octane thriller King, alongside Shah Rukh Khan, it is clear that whether he is on a film set or in a boardroom, the “Vijay” spirit from Deewaar remains his guiding light. To
