Following the massive global success of the Dhurandhar franchise, filmmaker Aditya Dhar has shared a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the “madness” required to bring his vision to life. In a candid social media update, the director revealed the extreme physical and creative demands of the production, admitting that at one point, the film literally ran out of available stunt performers in Mumbai.
Dhar, known for his meticulous attention to detail in high-stakes action, described the making of Dhurandhar as a daily exercise in pushing boundaries. “There is a thin line between conviction and madness, and on this film, I crossed it almost every single day,” Dhar shared.
The director confessed that many of the action concepts he pitched to his team sounded “ridiculous” even as he spoke them aloud. However, he credited his crew for never flinching, often responding to his wildest ideas with a simple: “Okay, let’s figure it out.”
The BTS revelations highlighted several high-risk sequences that have left fans buzzing. Dhar detailed a particularly harrowing scene involving a character being “cooked” inside an industrial pressure cooker, as well as a sequence where a performer was dragged through crowded city streets behind a motorcycle.
Another striking visual shared by the director featured thirty stuntmen hanging upside down from ceiling fans, a testament to the film’s commitment to practical, larger-than-life stunts over pure CGI.
Perhaps the most staggering revelation was the scale of the production’s manpower. Dhar revealed that the film employed over 400 stunt performers. The demand for talent was so high that during the peak of filming, the production team reportedly faced a shortage.
“I told my team I was seeing the same faces again and that we were running out of stuntmen,” Dhar recalled. “The response I got was, ‘There’s no one left, we’ve used almost everyone in Mumbai.'”
To manage this scale safely, the production relied on a world-class team of action experts, including Aejaz Gulab, Sea Young Oh, Yannick Ben, Ramazan Bulut, and Vishal Tyagi. Dhar praised their ability to maintain “controlled chaos,” ensuring that despite the explosive nature of the scenes, safety standards remained the top priority through endless rehearsals and mock sets.
The “madness” seems to have paid off. Starring Ranveer Singh in a career-defining role alongside an ensemble cast including Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R. Madhavan, the Dhurandhar franchise has become a juggernaut at the box office.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge has already grossed over ₹1,700 crore globally, with the franchise as a whole reportedly crossing the ₹3,000 crore mark. As the film continues its record-breaking run in theaters, these behind-the-scenes insights offer fans a new appreciation for the sheer grit and labor behind the spectacle.
