Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bhooth Bangla’ Secures UA Certificate; Set for a Family-Friendly Summer Release

The highly anticipated horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla, marking the grand reunion of superstar Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan after 14 years, has officially cleared its final hurdle before hitting the big screen. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted the film a UA 16+ certificate, signaling that the movie is ready for a wide theatrical release on April 10, 2026.

A Balanced Blend of Chills and Chuckles
The UA (Unrestricted Public Exhibition with Parental Guidance) rating confirms that while the film delves into the supernatural, it remains firmly rooted in the “family entertainer” category. According to internal reports, the board found the film’s spooky elements to be mild and balanced by heavy doses of situational comedy and fantasy.

The “16+” suffix suggests that while the film is accessible to all, parental guidance is advised for younger children due to thematic undertones and “spooky” sequences that are designed to thrill rather than terrify.

Priyadarshan’s Vision: No Room for Vulgarity
Director Priyadarshan, known for cult classics like Hera Pheri and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, emphasized that his storytelling remains focused on “clean” entertainment.

“I never make films that embarrass parents,” Priyadarshan stated in a recent interview. “Bhooth Bangla is a pure entertainer. It is a unique mix of comedy and mythology that families can enjoy together without hesitation.”

The “Family” Factor vs. The “Adult” Action Trend
The certification comes at a time when the box office is dominated by intense, R-rated action thrillers like Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Akshay Kumar, however, remains unfazed by the competition. Speaking to the media, the actor pointed out that Bhooth Bangla occupies a different space.

“There is a trend of violent, adult-themed cinema right now, but Bhooth Bangla is for the kids and the families,” Kumar explained. “We didn’t follow a trend; we followed a good story. After the intense films currently in theaters, I think the audience will welcome a lighter, fun-filled break.”

The plot is reportedly centered around a long-abandoned haunted mansion, weaving in elements of Indian mythology. With a soundtrack composed by Pritam, including the recently released hit “Ram Ji Aake Bhala Karenge,” the film is positioned to be the definitive “summer treat” for Indian cinema-goers. To
