The French Riviera is once again set to be painted in Indian colors as the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival prepares to welcome a vibrant and diverse delegation from India. Leading the star-studded lineup is Alia Bhatt, who is confirmed to return for her second consecutive year at the prestigious event. Following her widely discussed debut in 2025, where she championed Indian craftsmanship in a bespoke saree, the actress-producer is reportedly planning another high-fashion moment that blends global luxury with her distinct personal style. She will be joined by the legendary Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who continues her decades-long tradition as a global brand ambassador, ensuring that the Indian presence remains a highlight of the international red carpet between May 12 and May 23, 2026.

This year’s contingent is particularly notable for its unprecedented representation of India’s regional film industries, moving beyond the usual Bollywood focus. Punjabi cinema will make a historic maiden foray at Cannes with actor-singer Ammy Virk and Roopi Gill, who are attending to showcase their film Chardikala. Similarly, Gujarati cinema will find its voice through actor-producer Manasi Parekh, who is attending alongside her husband Parthiv Gohil. The Marathi film industry is also sending a strong delegation, with veteran stars Ashok Saraf and Nivedita Saraf expected to grace the red carpet in traditional Marathi attire, accompanied by Prajakta Mali and producer Kedar Joshi. This shift highlights a growing global interest in the rich storytelling found across the different linguistic landscapes of India.

The creative backbone of the industry will also be well-represented, with filmmaker Karan Johar expected to attend along with seasoned director Ashutosh Gowariker, who will be part of the official Indian delegation in his role as the director of the International Film Festival of India. Adding to the glamour quotient are actors Tara Sutaria, making her Cannes debut ahead of her film Toxic, and Mouni Roy, both of whom are anticipated to join the festivities. From the Malayalam film industry, filmmaker Chidambaram will be presenting his project Balan: The Boy at the Cannes Market, following the massive international success of Manjummel Boys. As these various artists prepare to take the world stage, the 2026 festival stands as a testament to the collective power and evolving global influence of Indian cinema as a whole.
